Crystallization kinetics of charged PNIPAM microgels dispersions at low volume fractions

چکیده
This work studies the kinetics of crystallization charged microgels suspensions Poly-N-Isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) at low ionic strength. The liquid-crystal transition is induced by suddenly decreasing temperature microgel dispersion, and process monitored measuring temporal evolution static structure factor dispersion using light scattering. We find that crystal growth rate, indicated crystallinity factor, strongly depends on quenching temperature.

Kinetics study of crystallization with the disorder-bcc-fcc phase transition of charged colloidal dispersions.
Structure transformation (disorder-bcc-fcc) in charged colloidal dispersions, as a manifestation of the Ostwald's step rule, was confirmed by means of reflection spectrum (RS) measurements in our previous study. By taking advantage of a reflection spectrum containing plenty of information about the crystallization behaviors, time-dependent changes of parameters associated with the crystal struc...
متن کاملEffective pair potential between charged nanoparticles at high volume fractions.
Simulations of charged colloidal dispersions are technically challenging. One possible workaround consists in reducing the system to the colloids only, whose interactions are described through an effective pair potential, wf. Still, the determination of wf is difficult mainly because it depends on the colloidal density, ϕ. Here we propose to calculate wf from simulations of a pair of colloids p...
متن کاملMicrogels or microcapsules? Role of morphology on the release kinetics of thermoresponsive PNIPAm-co-PEGMa hydrogels†
The effect ofmorphology of PNIPAm, PEGMa and PNIPAm-co-PEGMa hydrogels on the uptake and delivery (release kinetics) of a model drug (FITC–dextran) was investigated. Two types of hydrogel architectures: microgels and microcapsules, without and with core–shell morphology, were synthesized. The microcapsules had 30–50% greater uptake compared to the corresponding microgel architecture. The estima...
متن کاملMonodisperse Thermoresponsive Microgels with Tunable Volume-Phase Transition Kinetics
Stimuli-sensitive hydrogel microspheres or microgels are polymeric particles that consist of cross-linked three-dimensional networks. They shrink or swell significantly by expelling or absorbing large amounts of water in response to external stimuli, such as changes in temperature, pH, electric or magnetic fields. The chemical composition of the microgel determines the stimulus that can trigger...
متن کاملLocal structure of percolating gels at very low volume fractions.
The formation of colloidal gels is strongly dependent on the volume fraction of the system and the strength of the interactions between the colloids. Here we explore very dilute solutions by the means of numerical simulations and show that, in the absence of hydrodynamic interactions and for sufficiently strong interactions, percolating colloidal gels can be realised at very low values of the v...
